Everything LearnPress does. Without the a la carte add-ons.
Masteriyo gives you everything LearnPress does, plus a Gutenberg-native admin and built-in commerce on the entry plan. No 25-add-on Pro Bundle to keep current. Import your LearnPress courses in a single click.
Why make the move
Three reasons creators leave LearnPress for Masteriyo.
LearnPress is a popular WordPress LMS with a large free user base. But its paid features ship as a la carte add-ons or two bundle tiers, AI is not native, and there is no multi-site licence at any price point. Here is what a move to Masteriyo changes.
One plugin instead of a marketplace.
LearnPress’s premium features — paid memberships, certificates, assignments, content drip, group registration — are individual add-ons on the ThimPress marketplace, each installed, updated, and supported separately. Masteriyo ships with all of it in one plugin at no extra charge.
A builder built for 2026
Gutenberg-native admin, React-based course editor, and a setup wizard that takes you from install to a live course in under a minute. The WordPress you know, with a modern build flow on top.
Sell without expensive add-ons.
Native Stripe, PayPal, Razorpay, and Mollie. Multi-currency pricing, subscriptions, bundles, and coupons — all in core. LearnPress supports the same gateways, but each is sold as a separate paid add-on.

Look closer
What a move to Masteriyo actually changes.
The table tells you the “what.” Here’s the “why it matters.”
Bundled, not a la carte.
LearnPress sells features as individual add-ons or in two bundles. Stripe ($39), Certificates ($39), Assignments ($39), Gradebook ($39), Content Drip ($39), Co-Instructors ($29), and a few more — most cost $19 to $49 each. The Pro Bundle gathers 25 add-ons for $299/year first year. Masteriyo Pro at $149/year intro bundles the equivalent feature set natively, plus AI on every plan and native multi-currency that LearnPress does not include at any tier.
Add the paid ones a serious course business uses, and the real LearnPress bill lands at $495/year, before WooCommerce-based commerce, multi-currency plugins, or live-class integrations.
Masteriyo Pro is $149/year in year one, $299/year on renewal. Everything in that list is included: gradebook, multi-instructor with revenue sharing, reviews, native multi-currency, native gateways for Stripe, PayPal, Razorpay, and Mollie, and the migration tool.
AI in every plan, not a separate product.
LearnPress AI is a separate offering. It is not bundled into Free, Semi-Pro, or Pro. Masteriyo includes AI course outlines, lesson drafts, and quiz generation in every paid plan, starting at $99/year (Basic). Same OpenAI under the hood; the difference is whether AI is a separate purchase or already in the box.
Every one is a thing that can break on update day. Every one is a support ticket waiting to happen. Every one is a line on an invoice.
Masteriyo is a single plugin. Payments, subscriptions, multi-currency, bundles, coupons, certificates, gradebook, multi-instructor revenue sharing, the migration tool, and the course builder all live in the same codebase, so updates land together and the pieces are designed to fit.
Multi-site coverage Masteriyo Elite covers, LearnPress does not.
Both Masteriyo and LearnPress use OpenAI for AI features. You supply the API key, the plugin uses it. The difference is access: with Masteriyo, AI course outlines, lesson drafts, and quiz generation work on every plan including the free version on WordPress.org. With LearnPress, you have to be on the $199/year Standard plan before AI is unlocked at all.
The admin is built on Gutenberg so it feels like the rest of WordPress, not a plugin from a different decade. If you’ve ever stared at a blank course builder wondering where to start, this is the difference. You start from a draft, not a blank page.
Honest comparison
LearnPress is a serious product. Here is where it still wins.
We respect LearnPress. They power 80,000+ active installations and have built a strong free version with 8 free add-ons. There are specific cases where LearnPress is genuinely the better fit.
If you want lower long-term renewal pricing.
LearnPress Pro renews at $209.30/year (down from $299 first year), and Semi-Pro renews at $104. Masteriyo’s renewal pricing is at full list ($199 / $299 / $799). Over a 5+ year horizon, LearnPress’s discounted renewal model can come out cheaper if your feature set is happy on a single site.
If you want a long-established WordPress LMS plugin.
LearnPress has been on WordPress.org for years and powers 80,000+ active installations. The community knowledge base, third-party tutorials, and answered Stack Overflow questions are deeper than any newer competitor’s. If you place a premium on a long stability track record and an extensive community, LearnPress fits that profile.
If your free version needs to ship most features.
LearnPress’s free tier ships with 8 free add-ons covering Course Wishlist, Course Review, Student List, Prerequisites, bbPress, BuddyPress, Coming Soon, and Mobile App. If you want to launch a serious course site without spending a dollar and need those features in the free version, LearnPress’s free tier carries more out of the box.
Two more things worth knowing. LearnPress is by ThimPress, who also build the popular Eduma WordPress theme used on many course sites. And the Razorpay add-on at $29 makes LearnPress a viable choice in the Indian market at a low price point. These are not the headline reasons creators stay with LearnPress, but they’re fair points.
Make the move
Keep your courses. Keep your students. Keep your orders.
The reason most creators hesitate to switch is not price; it is the fear of rebuilding months of work. That’s what the LMS Migration Tool solves — one click and your courses, students, quizzes, and orders are in Masteriyo, with nothing deleted on the LearnPress side.
Migrate in one click.
The LMS Migration Tool ships in every Masteriyo plan, including the free version on WordPress.org. Install Masteriyo alongside LearnPress, hit Migrate, and the tool handles the rest in batches so large catalogs do not time out.

“While most people gravitate toward big names like TutorLMS, LearnPress, or LifterLMS, Masteriyo is a true dark horse — lesser known, but just as powerful, if not more so. If you’re looking for an LMS plugin that delivers quality without the bloat, Masteriyo is absolutely worth your attention.”
“As a non-techie teacher, I tried LearnPress, LifterLMS, MasterStudy, and Tutor LMS, but I faced issues with all of them and there was no support. By Masteriyo I finally did it with the help of the easy setup and the ready websites, and I’m very happy now. This LMS has almost everything necessary for online course websites.”
“The price and value for money was a great incentive. I made use of the free plan option without all sorts of conditions first. This made it possible for me and my assistant to get a proper feel for Masteriyo. I also got prompt replies to questions that I had along the way before I decided to upgrade to the first-level Pro plan. Very easy to use and easy to implement. Lots of features, and integration also super easy.”
