Why make the move
Three reasons creators leave Teachable for Masteriyo.
Teachable is a polished hosted platform with a strong brand. But the entry tier adds 7.5% transaction fees, plans are capped on product count (Starter 5, Builder 10), and your courses live on someone else’s servers. Here is what a move to Masteriyo changes.
No 7.5% transaction fee on every sale.
Teachable Starter ($348/year) charges 7.5% transaction fees on every sale. Builder ($828/year) drops that to 0%, but you pay $480 more per year. Masteriyo charges 0% transaction fees on every plan. For $50K through a Teachable Starter store, that is $3,750/year in fees that disappear when you switch.
You own your data.
On Masteriyo, your courses, students, orders, and content live in your WordPress database. You own them outright and can export, move, or back up at any time. Teachable keeps your data on their platform, behind their export tools, with their schema.
No product limits.
Teachable caps your product count by tier — 5 on Starter, 10 on Builder. Masteriyo has no limits on courses, students, or products at any tier. As your catalog grows, you do not pay more for the right to add another course.

Run the numbers
What a switch saves you over 3 years.
Two ways to read this. The plugin-licence-alone comparison shows the headline cost gap. The realistic stack adds the 7.5% Teachable Starter transaction fees that compound on every sale.
Plugin licence alone, over 3 years
Masteriyo Basic, Masteriyo Pro, Teachable Starter, and Teachable Builder.
Masteriyo prices factor in year 1 introductory pricing plus 2 years at renewal.
Professional stack, over 3 years
Masteriyo Pro at $149/year intro vs Teachable Builder at $828/year (the lowest Teachable tier with 0% transaction fees).
Masteriyo Pro 3-year cost: $747 with 0% fees and no product limits. Teachable Builder 3-year cost: $2,484 ($828 × 3) with 0% fees but capped at 10 products. Net savings with Masteriyo Pro: ~$1,737 over 3 years. If you stay on Teachable Starter ($348/year), the licence gap closes — but the 7.5% transaction fees compound. For $50K annual revenue, that is $3,750/year in fees Masteriyo does not charge. years.
Teachable pricing verified April 2026 against teachable.com/pricing. Starter $29/mo annual ($348/year, 7.5% fees, 5 products). Builder $69/mo annual ($828/year, 0% fees, 10 products). Growth $139/mo annual ($1,668/year). Masteriyo charges 0% on all plans with no product limits.

Honest comparison
Teachable is a serious product. Here is where it still wins.
We respect Teachable. It is one of the most established hosted platforms for course creators, and there are specific cases where Teachable is genuinely the better fit.
If you want zero technical setup.
Teachable is hosted: no WordPress to install, no theme to choose, no plugin updates to apply, no hosting to configure. You sign up and start. Masteriyo runs on WordPress, which means you (or your team) handle hosting, themes, and updates. If you want to skip the technical layer entirely, Teachable delivers exactly that.
If you want branded mobile apps for learners.
Teachable bundles iOS and Android student apps with all paid plans — your learners download an app and access your courses there. Masteriyo is responsive on mobile but does not ship a dedicated app today. If a native mobile experience for your learners is core to your offer, Teachable has the edge.
If you want global payments and tax handling built in.
Teachable handles global payments and tax (VAT, GST) at the platform level — they collect and remit taxes for you in many jurisdictions as a Merchant of Record. Masteriyo integrates with Stripe, PayPal, Razorpay, and others, but tax handling is your responsibility. If selling internationally and offloading tax compliance to your platform is important, Teachable’s Merchant of Record model is a real advantage.
Two more things worth knowing. Teachable Cloud is a managed-hosting option, handy if you don’t want to think about WordPress hosting at all. And Teachable’s ProPanel analytics is more sophisticated than Masteriyo’s dashboard if you need custom multi-dashboard reports. These aren’t reasons most creators stay with Teachable, but they’re fair points.

“While most people gravitate toward big names like TutorLMS, Teachable, or LifterLMS, Masteriyo is a true dark horse — lesser known, but just as powerful, if not more so. If you’re looking for an LMS plugin that delivers quality without the bloat, Masteriyo is absolutely worth your attention.”
“As a non-techie teacher, I tried Teachable, LifterLMS, MasterStudy, and Tutor LMS, but I faced issues with all of them and there was no support. By Masteriyo I finally did it with the help of the easy setup and the ready websites, and I’m very happy now. This LMS has almost everything necessary for online course websites.”
“The price and value for money was a great incentive. I made use of the free plan option without all sorts of conditions first. This made it possible for me and my assistant to get a proper feel for Masteriyo. I also got prompt replies to questions that I had along the way before I decided to upgrade to the first-level Pro plan. Very easy to use and easy to implement. Lots of features, and integration also super easy.”
